About Semora

A semester's dates arrive scattered: a PDF attached to an email, a page inside a learning platform, an announcement made out loud in class and written down nowhere. None of those is in a shape you can plan from, and gathering them is manual work that has to be repeated every term.

The usual result is not one forgotten assignment. It is finding three at once in week six, next to a project worth more of the grade than you remembered. That is not a failure of effort. The information was spread across too many documents to hold in your head.

Semora starts from the document that already contains the whole semester — the syllabus — and turns it into courses, deadlines, meeting times and grade weights you can review. From there the calendar, reminders, grades and planning work with real academic context instead of an empty list.

This is the most consequential design decision in the product, so it is worth stating plainly.

A learning-platform connection reflects what an instructor publishes inside that platform. The syllabus is where grade weights, exam dates, the reading schedule, office hours and the grading scale usually live, and much of that never becomes an entry in any platform at all.

There is a practical reason too. Not everyone's school runs a supported platform, and some instructors post dates only in the syllabus. A product that depended on that connection would leave those students with no route in.

So Canvas, Blackboard and Moodle import is free on every plan, and it is deliberately not the front door. The free path — scan the syllabus, or paste the text — works for anyone.

This is a principle rather than a feature. Extracted deadlines pass through a review screen, and none of them is saved until you have looked at the list and approved it.

That screen does three specific things: it flags what the model returned with lower confidence, marks dates that fall outside the term's range, and keeps items that arrived with no date separate instead of inventing one for them.

The reasoning is that a wrong date you trust costs more than a date you never had. A tool that files things on your behalf without showing you what it filed keeps the convenience and hands you the risk.

A syllabus often contains the term outline before all assignments appear in your learning platform. Semora reads it for deadlines, meeting times and grading information. You review the extracted deadlines before saving them.

Canvas connection adds dated coursework from your private Calendar Feed. Copy the link from Canvas and paste it into Semora; you do not need to generate an access token. A calendar feed may omit unpublished or undated work, so check important changes against the official course page.

Use Semora to see what is coming up, track grades from the scores and weights you enter, and keep your plan available across devices. Pro adds tools such as study planning, flashcards and an AI tutor grounded in your course material.

Your instructor’s syllabus, announcements and official gradebook remain the source of truth. AI extraction can make mistakes. Check uncertain dates and grading rules, and submit assignments in your school’s own system.

The free plan's one-semester cap is not an interface detail. It is enforced both in the app and by a trigger on the database itself, so a free account cannot start a second term by any route. That matters most at a term boundary: your connected classes keep syncing, but setting up the next semester is the point where Pro is required.

The same is true of Pro features. Hosting a Course Space is checked on the server and returns an explicit error rather than a greyed-out button. Learning-platform import is no longer on that list — it is free on every plan.

It is mentioned here because it governs what this site can honestly promise. A limit that exists only in the interface is a suggestion; one that exists in the database is a fact, and only the second kind belongs on a pricing page written as fact.

Semora publishes its own product pages and study guides. Descriptions of Semora are checked against the app’s implementation. Comparison articles identify Semora’s role as the publisher and distinguish research from hands-on testing.

Where a guide discusses another product, use its linked sources and check the vendor for current pricing and features. An article based on public documentation is not a claim that every product was personally tested.

Examples and app previews may use illustrative course data. They are not student testimonials or measured outcomes. If you find an error, send the page URL and the specific claim to support so it can be checked.

Free includes one AI action for the life of the account, one semester, one course you add yourself, unlimited Canvas-synced classes, deadline tracking and grade tracking. That AI action can be a syllabus scan, a lecture recording or a document turned into notes.

Pro is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with the full feature breakdown on the Pricing page. A subscription applies to your account across supported devices. AI use is subject to fair-use limits.

Academic information and uploaded course material are stored in your account. Features that process a syllabus, notes or a recording send the relevant material to the services described in the Privacy Policy.
